09-2002 / 10-2002 - The 6 week in between details

Doug had proposed literally right after we met, we had both been married before and felt that a long engagement, not for us.... We were both adults, did not want to drag things out, did not want a "BIG" wedding, did not want to be apart for the upcoming holiday's, so a date was set between us as 10/12/2002.... Yes, just SIX short weeks from the day we first met online.

Of course when he proposed he did not do the formal thing, it was a spur of the moment question that came from the heart and he meant it when he asked. So there was no ring, no surprise setting that was planned out like those who date and the next natural step is marriage, just a question from the heart to spend the rest of our lives together.

He felt bad that I did not have a ring, so one evening a day or so later he came over after work, got down on one knee and proposed again with a beautiful heart shaped ring for me to wear. (which I still wear on and off to this day!) I loved the ring, because it was so different and unique - Like our relationship!

Now for the fun part: Telling our families... You know a joyous event like marriage is supposed to be fun and exciting and tears of joy to tell your family! Well, not so for us, or at least in the beginning. Parents only want the best for their children and with us both being married before and our folks seeing what we had gone through there, did not want to see us hurt again. Everyone one was, wait, there is no rush to get married (& That was true, we were only getting married because we wanted to), make sure you two want to be together... Set the date for next year and just keep dating. Doug & I were very adamant about getting married and starting our lives together now, not in 2003. If we loved each other now, we would next year as well.

Our family's found that they were going to have to accept these two bull headed adult children and let them do what they wanted and to support them and be a part of the big event.

More later....
