09 01 2002 - Meeting the Man of my Dreams

09-01-2002 or close enough, it was Labor Day weekend 2002....

I had met my first husband while still in High School and we were married the year after I graduated and then divorced when I was 30. I never was one that liked going to the bars much even when I was young and married and now that I was single, the bars still did not sound very fun for me. Yes I went to a few for drinks with firends to just get out, but not with the thought in mind to meet and hook up with someone. So I spent a lot of time on my computer and met guys through AOL and their profiles that were out there... Or shall I say, most of them contacted me and we would "IM", then talk a bit on the phone and if that went well, I would agree to meet them. Now I only did this a handful of times and my best friend always knew all the details of the date... That was my safety net.

So I started talking online to dougsawineguy@aol.com, aka Doug, over Labor Day weekend of 2002. We decided to meet up at a place called The Big Chill. This was close to my house and a very public place. Being it was a weekend night and they had a bar, I felt that all would be fine. So we got together for some drinks and talked in person for quite a while. With it getting late, we called it a night (or at least we thought so) and parted. I liked this Doug and really connected with him, not only online, on the phone, but in person as well.

So after we parted ways and got home, we were back online and were chatting away into the wee hours... Doug tells me later that he knew this was meant to be and was not going to let me get away.

During the wee hours of the night talking, Doug wanted to take me on a "date". So a few days later he picked me up from the house and took me to The Melting Pot on The Plaza. What an impression he made on this first date. I felt like a kid, not a divorced mother of two.... He was wonderful...

Within the next couple of weeks we were with eachother, on the phone or e-mailing & IM'ng all of the time and a week or maybe even two after we met - he proposed.....Well you know the results, but how did this play out? to be continued....
